2010 Calendar of Weekend Events

September 4-5 Opening Weekend
Come see everything new that Kathy’s Pumpkin Patch has to offer this year! A newly themed 10 acre maze and a corn labyrinth for the little folk and the mature folk that just want a shorter walk; new activities and games in Harvestville; and lots of new items and local artists represented in our harvest barn. Also, come enjoy all the returning favorite activities-making scarecrows, birdhouse gourds, hayrides, bonfires, etc.          

September 11-12 Grapevine and Birch Twig Wreaths
Decorate your own grapevine/twig wreath for the fall season with the help of our creative staff. This year we are featuring birch twig wreaths handmade in Chippewa county, Wisconsin. We have a variety of wreath sizes available along with a wide assortment of silk and dried flowers/berries and ribbons to choose from. Need something fresh for fall at your home or office? Let us show you our bundles of decorative stalks, bittersweet clumps, or bring your empty flower pots, and we’ll help you create a unique autumn filled pot to greet guests and family at your door. Cost: Price of materials used Sunday is Grandparent’s Day at the farm! Each grandparent that brings grandchildren to the farm on Sunday and pays for maze admissions for their family will receive a free child-sized pumpkin for their attending grandchildren. (Limit 3 pumpkins per grandparent)

September 18-19 Harvest Baskets and Bolga Baskets from Ghana
Create a Harvest Centerpiece for your dining table this season. Choose from our wide selection of baskets or bring a favorite basket from home to fill with our beautiful produce. We have a huge selection of decorative squash, mini-pumpkins, and edible or ornamental gourds and other fall market items. We’ll help you choose the finishing touches, like a sprig of bittersweet or a pumpkin pepper. Not feeling creative today? Just bring us your basket and while you enjoy the afternoon with your family, we’ll create a beautiful filled basket that will be ready for take-home when you’re ready to go. We also feature colorful Market Baskets, handmade by village women in Ghana, Africa. Our Bolga Baskets are hand-woven in the historical town of Bolgatanga, Ghana in West Africa. The Weavers of the Bolga Baskets are farm families that supplement their unpredictable crop income by weaving and selling these handcrafted works of art. We’re pleased that our Iowa farm can help support a Ghanain farm. Purchase a basket for yourself—a truly beautiful, sturdy, recyclable basket. Or fill one with our farm grown produce, locally made jams, relishes, and honey for a very thoughtful and practical gift. Cost: Price of materials used

September 25-26 Pumpkin Decorating
Choose a pumpkin—warty or smooth-big or little-and bring it to our craft area. We’ll help you make it shine! Choose from our large assortment of fall ribbons, artificial or dried berries, greens, leaves, and bittersweet. Create it yourself or let us make it beautiful for you while you “play” with your family. Cost: price of materials tbd.

Saturday Nights in October: Moonlight Maze
The maze will be open from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. every Saturday Night in October! Test your nerves as you brave the dark in hopes to make it through our 10 acre corn maze. If you thought our maze was tricky during the day, wait until you tackle this challenge! Bonfires and wagon rides to and from the maze will be running throughout the evening. Remember to bring your own flashlight! Cost: $8.00 per person. Last admittance into the maze is at 9:30 p.m. No smoking or Alcohol is permitted in the maze!

October 2-3 Bees and More
Come to the farm this weekend and see a live demonstration bee hive, and talk with Iowa beekeepers. Lots of information, hand-outs to take home, and demonstrations to learn how much everything we eat and enjoy depends upon bees. There is no charge to view the demonstrations.This will be your chance to view a live demonstration bee hive, and talk with Iowa beekeepers. October 9-10 Paint Your Own Pumpkin
A pumpkin is not complete without a scary, happy, or a crazy face! Use your artistic skills and paint a pumpkin that you’ll want to keep in your house long after the season is over! Choose from thousands of pumpkins. Paints, and brushes are available for use. Cost: $1.00 plus price of pumpkin. While the kids are painting their own pumpkins, come browse through our harvest barn and see all of the hand-painted pumpkins we offer for sale. Have your own special request, or need a unique gift? Choose your pumpkin, tell us about your design ideas, and then give us a day or two. Our pumpkin artist will create something special just for you!

October 16 Nauvoo on the Road (Saturday Only)
We are VERY excited to host “Nauvoo on the Road” this Saturday. They will give us a glimpse into life as our grandparents and great grandparents lived. We anticipate having demostrations of brick making, shoe and rope making, basket weaving and much more. Be sure to check out our website closer to the event for final details.

October 23-24 To Be Determined

October 30-31 Closing Weekend for our Fall Season!
End the season with one final trek thru the corn maze. See how much you have learned from your previous attempts. It's Halloween, don't forget to wear your costume!
